Ralph Benmergui: My Israel is a TV show I put together with Seekers Television Inc. and will air on the Vision TV network. The show is done from the point of view of a liberal, religious and Sephardic Jew. I came at this as someone who wants to know, “Can you be a good Jew” and cast a critical eye on how Israel is evolving?
We’re just putting the finishing touches on the last episode of my new series, ‘My Israel’ and I think that we’ve managed to stay true to the original idea. Looking at all the interview footage and layering in original music from renowned jewish music composer David Buchbinder I can almost smell , taste and touch this bewildering country.
We shot this 5 parter fast. 12 days straight in Israel and a couple of shoots here in Toronto. Still it’s about the content so we didn’t have to fill the show with lots of expensive sizzle ie special effects and animations.Someone who was reviewing the series phoned me and said that usually he sees Israel as if he was looking over a wall but this series brought him right in to the living room.
Good, that’s good.

Dear Ralph,
I am a Canadian/Palestinian , born in 1947 in Haifa. I’ve been thirty years in Canada. I enjoyed your jounalism when you used to hold town hall meetings for CBC TV, and I’ve enjoyed very much your TV show “My Israel”. Thank you for being an objective journalist, thank you for being neutral, even though you’re a Jew, and I am sure that you’re not the only objective and fair Jew. I have personally met many fair, objective Jews, looking for a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There are quite a few extremists on both sides, that are hindering and stopping all peace efforts. My parents, who both passed away now, used to tell us that they had many Jewish neighbours, with whom they had no problem, and my father told us that he put himself infront of some Palestinian militia men in 1948 who wanted to kill a Jewish family, and told them that he personally will protect this family or any other Jewish family in the neighbourhood…….etc. In 1948 when I was one year old we were expelled to Beirut, and have never seen my birth place yet.
Please keep up your peace promoting journalism, Arabs and Jews can live together, they were living together before 1948.
God Bless You
Nazir Kazak
